Artificial Intelligence and its place in our lives: Like it or not

“AI in Computer Graphics and Cultural Heritage Preservation”

Holly Rushmeier, PhD, Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science at Yale University. Noted for her work on global illumination, material capture, and the display of high-dynamic-range images using computer graphics, and her participation in building a digital model of Michaelangelo’s Florentine Pietà. She will speak about her research areas and how there are positive aspects in applying AI and machine learning to things like taking some of the tedium out of the creative design of visual media and gaining new insights into heritage. She will also talk about some downsides as well—systems that inappropriately use copyrighted material for creative design, and question-answering systems that give erroneous information about heritage.
