Are you ready for our fall excursion? On Tuesday, October 21, we’ve planned a (24 seat) chartered bus trip to the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in Centerport, LI. This is the waterfront estate of William K. Vanderbilt ll which began as a seaside English cottage and grew into a sprawling 24 room Spanish-Revival mansion that it is today. The natural history museum is home to a collection of animals and interesting artifacts of Vanderbilt and the state of the art Reichert Planetarium is a celestial wonder. The landscape alone provides stunning, scenic views of Long Island Sound. We anticipate a three- hour visit on the grounds before our bus departs at 3:00PM.
Attendees will meet the Elite Travel charter bus at 7:45 AM at the North Haven Park and Ride Commuter Lot @Devine Street in North Haven. Our shuttle will board the Bridgeport Ferry to Port Jefferson (9:00AM) and then shuttle us on to the museum for our anticipated 11:45 arrival.
Museum docents will lead two 12-member tours for us. A boxed lunch will be provided or you can pack your own lunch and snacks to bring along. Boxed lunch choices are grilled chicken, turkey, tuna or a veggie sandwich.
The cost of the Vanderbilt trip is $105. Members can register and pay on line or after registering, send checks made out to Yale University Women’s Organization to Dana Nelson at159 Granite Road, Guilford, CT 06437. Please provide your box lunch choice at registration as we need to provide a count in advance.
