Our speaker this year is Jennifer Gerarda Brown.
Jennifer Gerarda Brown is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, and the University of Illinois College of Law. She teaches Civil Procedure, Lawyers’ Professional Responsibility, and various courses related to Alternative Dispute Resolution. Prior to joining the Quinnipiac Law faculty, Professor Brown served as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold A. Baker, US District Court for the Central District of Illinois. She practiced law as a litigation associate at Winston & Strawn in Chicago, and taught law at the University of Chicago, Emory University and Santa Clara University. She joined the Quinnipiac School of Law faculty in 1994, became full professor in 1997. Then in 2013, she became the dean of the law school, pausing for a year in 2019 to serve as interim executive vice-president and provost of Quinnipiac University.
At the time of her decision to step down as Dean, during a recognition ceremony, Quinnipiac University President Judy Oliam stated that perhaps the most distinctive and impactful aspect of Jennifer’s tenure has been her unflagging insistence that students should continue to feel like human beings as they learn to think like lawyers. She is responsible for ingraining her mantra “To Educate the Whole Lawyer to Understand and Serve the Whole Client” into the law school’s mission. Professor Brown is returning to the Quinnipiac law school faculty after a productive and well deserved sabbatical year, where her leadership, exceptional mentorship and dedication to the profession will continue to inspire students in a holistic, problem-solving manner.
